As we celebrate a life full of giving, we announce the passing of Phyllis L. (Newton) McComb, age 91, who passed from natural causes on Monday, November 25, 2024, in Wichita, Kansas. She was born, in Wichita, on August 7, 1933, the daughter of the late Margaret (Hill) and Tim Newton and was the proud sister to Bob, Carol, and Harold.
Phyllis enjoyed her youth, meeting friends as she attended and graduated from Allison Middle and North High Schools. She’d take what she learned and use her skills as a secretary beginning at Watkins, then to Midland Mechanical, to which she retired until the son, who owned, Commercial Mechanical, heard of her skills and offered her a deal to come back which she couldn’t turn down, until her second retirement came.
With this, she was able to provide a life of memories for her two children, David and Vicky, who in turn brought her more joy when she became a grand and great-grandmother to Collin, Will, Kristen, Jason, Mat, and Jeff.
When not at work or spending time with family, Phyllis made memories with her hands creating one of a kind works of art telling stories through quilting, making a dream come true by creating a wedding dress for that special occasion of a loved one in her life, knitting a little piece that keeps that memory alive a little longer, using her voice to bring joy through the group, Sweet Adelines, or simply got lost in a story she read.
A life which began as a single strand of thread, pulled together many others through her 91 years and made a work of art that wrapped around all she knew and loved.
Survived by her children, David (Gayla) Stanley and Vicky (Bill) Williamson and grandchildren: Collin Stanley, Will Parrish, Kristen Owen, Jason Williamson, Mat Williamson, and Jeff Williamson.
She now rejoices with those gone before, her parents and brothers, Bob (Bev) Newton and Harold (Glenda) Newton.
Join us in honoring Phyllis at a visitation on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM or on Thursday, December 5, 2024, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM and a graveside service immediately following in the Garden of Cross.
