Quy Thi Nguyen, 89, passed away peacefully in her sleep into her Eternal Life. After surviving one of her many strokes, Quy succumbed to pneumonia on January 31st, 2022. Quy was mostly called; Ma, Ba Ngoai, Ba Noi, Ba Co (Mom, Grandma, Great-Grandma) by her family.
Born on May 5th, 1932 in Ha Noi, Vietnam, Quy was the only child to her parents; Nguyen Quoc Thang & Nguyen Thi Re. By the standards of the era, Quy was married at age 17, and had her first child at age 18. Quy and her husband migrated into the South of Vietnam (District 11 of Saigon) in the late 1950s as the Vietnam Civil War began. There, they built their lives together and raised 6 beautiful children. Though it was usual for women to stay home with the children while their husbands worked during her era, Quy managed to be an exceptional wife and mother, all while working as a swine seller at the local farmers’ market. She and her husband worked tirelessly to provide opportunities for their children.
Culturally, Quy was raised with tough love from her parents, therefore, she only knew how to show her love for her children the same way. However, she was more than happy to be the central figure in the lives of her children. Anyone who knew them knew that she was a star in their eyes, and that continued onto her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In 1989, Quy and her husband along with their youngest child and a grandson they raised, reunited with 3 of her children in United States, leaving 2 of her children and their families still in Vietnam. Quy resided with her youngest daughter in Wichita, KS since. As an elderly individual to a new country, Quy was not able to join the workforce. Fortunately, she was kept busy with grandchildren. She raised specifically 2 from birth to adulthood; Steven and Chanell Nguyen. Hence, they shared the most special bond and love like no others. Because Quy was an extremely loving and most welcoming person, the rest of her grandchildren naturally gravitated towards her, each shared their own special memories with her.
By 1999, Quy have lost both her husband and oldest child. However, the rest of her family have joined her in the States. Quy was overjoyed of having all her children and their families living in the same country as she did, and like most people, Quy too, believed America is “the land of the free.”
Family gatherings on the weekends were her favorite times, even when she wasn’t feeling well and had to rest in her room, just hearing everyone’s chatters gave her joy and comfort. Though Quy’s health was failing for years, but her joy for life with family and indomitable spirit kept her pushing through. We will miss this sweet, gentle soul deeply for the rest of our days.
Quy is preceded in death by her loving husband Loi Duc Vu, her beloved son Khanh Duc Vu and her parents. She is survived by her sons; Loc Duc Vu, Tho Duc Vu and wife (Anh Thi Le), Minh Duc Vu and wife (Mai Vu), daughter-in-law Hang Tuyet Thi Le, daughters; Van Cam Thi Vu and husband Hai Cong Dang, Huong Hoai Thi Vu and husband (Hiep Duc Nguyen). Grandchildren; Ha Vu, Khanh Vu, Tuan Vu, Chau Vu, Dung Vu, Son Vu, Cathy Vu, Kim Vu, Quang Vu, Quyen Vu, Quan Vu, Quynh Vu, Chi Dang, Chinh Dang, Uyen Dang, Hao Dang, Steven Nguyen, Chanell Nguyen.
