Richard was 76 years old. He was born at home in Big Cabin, Oklahoma on December 20, 1946 to Ruby Lee and Robert Clayton Breshears. He was the 2nd youngest of 11 siblings. Richard had 3 sisters, 5 brothers, and 2 siblings that died in infancy.
Richard lost his father at a young age and spent most of his growing up years with his oldest brother in Wichita, Kansas, until he joined the Navy at 18. Richard served his beloved country in the Navy from 1965 to 1972. He was on active duty from 1965 to 1970 and served in the U.S. Naval Reserves from 1970 to 1972.
Richard married Betty Jean Shelton on September 18, 1970 and they lived in Wichita throughout their life together. Not too long after they were married, Richard and Betty visited Messiah Baptist Church and Richard became a believer in Jesus Christ on December 16, 1973. On October 3, 1975, Richard and Betty welcomed a baby girl, Diane Lynn, to their lives. Two years later they welcomed Peggy Marie on January 14, 1978.
Richard’s family grew to 5 on January 7, 1995, when Diane married David Vincent Rich. It grew again when Peggy married Warren Darian Echols on June 21, 2003.
One of Richard’s most memorable days came when he was hunting in the woods in Eureka on December 4, 1997. Richard’s family sent the Sheriff to go hunt him down to let him know that his 1st granddaughter, Sabrina Dovie Rich, was coming. On January 11, 2000, his little Hallmark watching partner, Mercedes Jean Rich, was born. On October 26, 2005, his fishin’ buddy, Alexander Warren Echols, was born to Warren & Peggy Echols. Richard loved wearing his favorite wardrobe of t-shirts with his grandkids pictures on them, so that he could tell everyone he met about them and their accomplishments.
Richard was a long time member of North Star Masonic Lodge. He served many positions in the Lodge, but one of his most rewarding positions came when he became Master of the North Star Lodge in 1995. He enjoyed learning the scriptures through the Lodge and mentored many to learn those same scriptures. Richard met many of his long time friends at North Star and he especially enjoyed filling bellies with fish at many fish frys hosted by the Lodge.
Richard was employed at Boeing Aerospace from October 10, 1972 to May, 2005. He retired from Boeing when they sold their public division and joined on with Spirit Aerospace from 2005-2010. In 2010, he officially retired to fishing. Richard could not wait for that day in 2010, when he could spend his days fishing, relaxing, and taking it easy.
Richard was preceded in death by his mother, father, and 10 siblings. Richard joined his beloved wife, Betty, who had just recently transitioned to her heavenly home less than a month ago.
Richard is survived by his daughters: Diane (David) and Peggy (Warren) and his beloved grandchildren: Sabrina (Lucas), Mercedes and Alexander. Richard is also survived by 1 sister, Roberta Devore.
