

Richard Allen Theisen, age 84, of Wichita, Kansas passed away on Saturday, August 16, 2025 at Azria Nursing Home after an almost six year battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born on July 14, 1941, in Dyersville, Iowa to Francis and Mathilda (Foxen) Theisen. After high school, he joined the United States Navy, as a Medic, and served for 28 years, which included saving many lives in the Vietnam War.
While stationed in Thurso, Scotland, he met the love of his life, Joan, and her daughter, Donna. They were married on November 21, 1974. They returned to America in 1975. After being stationed in Illinois and North Carolina, in 1980, they settled in Idaho Falls, Idaho, where they would spend the next 30 years. Richard enjoyed bowling, gambling, and most of all being a member of the Idaho Falls VFW, where he ran bingo, among other things. Throughout his military career and living in Idaho Falls he made several life-long friendships.
In 2010, he and his wife, Joan followed their daughter, Donna and her family to Wichita, Kansas. The following year, Joan passed away. Richard kept active with his dogs and by lending a hand when needed with projects including helping when his son-in-law, Kevin was deployed. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Joan; parents; three brothers, Donald (Darlene) Theisen, Milo Theisen, and Francis "Junior" Theisen; two sisters, Jeane (Theisen) Turner and Anna Lee Theisen.
Survivors include his daughter, Donna (Kevin) Morrissey; grandchildren, Christina (Johnathan) Christian, Michael Morrissey and Matthew Morrissey; great grandsons, Alexander Schwab and Rorik Morrissey-Christian; great granddaughter, Isabella Joan Christian; sisters, Dorothy (Gerald) Strang of Cascade, IA, Luann (John) Wessel of Colesburgh, IA; brother-in-law, Gary Turner of Marion, IA; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial Graveside Service will be at 3:00 p.m., Monday, September 8, 2025 at Resthaven Gardens of Memory, Rose Columbarium.
