

Bob was born June 19th, 1934 in Aurora, Kansas to Earl and Alice (Demanette) Slater. He was drafted in the US Army in 1957 and served our country from 1957 to 1961 as both an active service member and a member of the Army reserves. As an active service member, he spent time stationed in France during peace time post the Second Great World War. Following his time in the military, he spent most of his career working as a truck driver delivering milk for various dairies in and around south central Kansas. Following his retirement from truck driving, Bob spent 16 years working as a door-greeter at Wal-Mart in Newton. Something that fit his social-butterfly personality perfectly.
Bob married the love of his life, Phyllis (Clore) Slater, on November 21st, 1975 and remained married to her until her passing in 2015. He was also preceded in death by his parents Earl and Alice Slater, his brother Dean Slater, and his sister Shirley (Slater) Linatorski. He is survived by 4 children, 5 step-children, and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a few great-great grandchildren. Bob thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
A public visitation will be Thursday, July 20th from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at DeVorss Flanagan-Hunt Mortuary. A public memorial service will be Friday, July 21, 2023 at 10 a.m. both at DeVorss Flanagan-Hunt Mortuary, 201 S. Hydraulic St., Wichita, Kansas A private interment with family will be held at a later date and time in Herington, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, money may be sent to DeVorss Flanagan-Hunt Mortuary in Wichita in memory of Bob. All proceeds will be donated to Mott Children’s Hospital at the University of Michigan in Bob’s memory and in honor of his grandson Mason.
