Hodges, Ruby “Jean” Reneau, 90, departed this world for a better place February 27, 2015. She was born July 23, 1924 to Thomas and Louise Reneau in Anthony Kansas. Jean graduated from Wellington High School and continued her education at Kansas State University. While attending college she became an avid Wildcat fan, a member of the National Honor Society, and the 1948 KSU homecoming queen. There she met Jack R. Hodges, whom she married September 1, 1950. They spent the next 64 years together, up to his passing July 23, 2014. Jean gave over 25 years of her life to the Sedgwick County Extension Council helping educate others on food and nutrition. While working, Jean earned her Master’s Degree from Wichita State University. After retirement, she was in high demand as a county and state fair food judge. She also donated her time to the literary guild teaching adults how to read. Jean is survived by her children, Gayle Hodges of Wichita, Kevan and Kim Hodges of Elk Falls, LeAnn and Dylan Burns of Edmond, Oklahoma. Three grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Jean loved KSU sports, great food, cooking for her family, dogs and horses, but mostly she loved her family. May her lifetime example of grace, love and selflessness live on in all who knew her. Funeral service is 10:00 am Friday, March 6 at Resthaven Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Jean’s name to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice.
