Rothe, Sammie, “Sam”, “Pepaw”, “Pa”, 75, City of Wichita transportation superintendant and manager, passed away October 30, 2010. Viewing 12-8 p.m. Tuesday with family receiving 5-6:30 p.m. at Resthaven Mortuary. Funeral service 10 a.m. Wednesday at Believers Southern Baptist Church. Sam was a charter and founding member of Believers Southern Baptist Church and Adult Sunday School teacher. He was also an ordained Southern Baptist Minister. Sam was a member of a bowling league at West Acres and a proud Marine Korean War veteran. Preceded in death by brother Raymond Rothe and sister, Mary Pickinpaugh. Survivors include wife of nearly 56 years, Lavada F. (Ray) Rothe; sons, Sammie “Sam” Jr. (Jeannie) Rothe and Steve (Sandy) Rothe; daughters Lana (Terry) Tillotson and Lisa (Lloyd) Kelly all of Wichita; sisters Lillie Little of Wichita and Jean (John) Burton of Hillsboro, MO.; 15 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; his dog Bubba “The Boss” and other relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established with Believers Southern Baptist Church Building Fund.
