
Sister Jacklyn Mathilda Duncan, 79, entered eternal life on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at Marian Hall, Mt. St. Mary Convent, Wichita, Kansas. Sr. Jacklyn was born April 29, 1946, to Rose Aimee Pellegran and Johnny Jack Duncan in Hugo, Oklahoma. She was one of four children in the family. Sr. Jacklyn had a nomadic life during her grade school years. Since her father worked in construction building grain elevators, she attended at least three different schools each year during her elementary school years in Kansas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Iowa and Texas. When she was in eighth grade, her parents decided to settle down in One Creek Valley, Oklahoma. She attended high school in Antlers, Oklahoma. After completing her high school years in 1964, she entered the Sisters of St. Joseph as a postulant. She received the habit and religious name of Sister Mary Stephanie August 5, 1965. Her final profession was July 22, 1972. Sister Jacklyn was a teacher and principal for 36 years. Her teaching experiences were in Kansas. They were: one school in the Dodge City Catholic Diocese and eight schools in the Catholic Diocese of Wichita. When she retired from teaching, she moved to Mt. St. Mary and did various ministries to assist the sisters. She is preceded in death by her parents, Rose Aimee and Johnny Jack. Survivors include her sisters Cathryne Godwin, Sally Keck and brother John Clarence and nieces, nephews and cousins.
The Wake Service will be Sunday, November 9, 2025, at 5:30 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, November 10, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. All services will be at Mt. St. Mary Convent, 3700 E. Lincoln, Wichita, KS 67218. Memorial contributions in her name may be made to Dear Neighbor Ministries or the Retirement Fund for the Sisters of St. Joseph, 3700 E. Lincoln, Wichita, KS 67218.
