The world lost a shining gem in Susan (Owens) Minor, who passed on Friday, August 30, 2024, in Wichita, Kansas at the age of 75. She was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on November 29, 1948 to the late Harold and Mary (Owens) Schreder.
Growing up, the family didn’t have much, yet Susan’s mom, Mary, gave her the tools on how to be successful on meager means, and sister, Sandra, was a great example of a strength and how to get things done.
After her school years, Susan dabbled in owning her own business, tried marriage and was blessed with a beautiful little girl she named after her sister, Sandra. She loved being a mom and when she later met and married the man who taught her what true love was, Harry Minor, she received the truest kind of love. They married on September 28, 1998 and together, had 27 years of spending quality time with daughter, Sandra, her now bonus sons, Steven and Scott, and being a grandmother to their children too.
She and Harry loved picking up the grandkids and spoiling them. There were trips all over the world where the pair enjoyed trying new delicacies. On cruises, because she later worked 10 years for Royal Caribbean and received great rates, she basked in the sun for the best suntan and he continued to spoil her with her favorite color of yellow by showering her with yellow flowers and later, with a yellow corvette. Harry, knew what she loved and honored her in so many ways.
In her later years, Susan and Harry made their home in Derby, Kansas where Harry didn’t hesitate to care for his bride. Especially when she needed him the most at the end. He was right by her side.
She’d not want you to ponder on her death as Susan was a spiritual woman and knew where she was going. And now, the brightest color of yellow, will be the light that guides you down the new path you’ll follow.
Susan treasured her family and friends. She would wish each and every one of you to FIND your joy, LIVE your joy, and would wish you many opportunities to SHARE your joy.
Rest in peace, Susan, until we meet again.
She is preceded by her parents; daughter, Sandra; and son, Scott. Those left to cherish her memory are sister, Sandy Hurst and niece, Susan Ruby; son, Steven and grandchildren: Chase, Corbin, and Paige; and late son, Scott’s children: Justin, Chris, and Brandy.
A visitation for Susan will be held Wednesday, September 11, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM and a funeral service will occur Thursday, September 12, 2024 at 10:00 AM, at Resthaven Mortuary, 11800 West Highway 54, Wichita, KS 67209.
