Born in Caldwell, Kansas, Tom was the son of Alvin Dale Dunbar and Myrtle Aletha Rowan Dunbar. He graduated from Wellington High School in Wellington, Kansas, and went on to serve his country proudly in the United States Army from 1968 to 1971, achieving the rank of E5 while stationed in Korea.
Tom married Stephanie Frances Powers on August 5, 1972, in Vine Grove, Kentucky, though their paths later diverged
After his military service, Tom dedicated himself to civil service, working diligently until his retirement in 2004. He was known for his strong work ethic and honor for his country.
Tom was a man of many passions. He loved cars—anyone who knew him could tell you about his enthusiasm for them.
He is survived by his son, Ryan Dunbar, and grandchildren Kaitie, Jacob, Cavan, Shelby, and Lilly. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Aletha; his siblings, Jimmie, Rita, and Sandra; and his son, Thomas.
Tom’s legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. His life was a testament to service, love, and quiet strength.
