

Riffel, Virginia E., 81, of Wichita, KS passed away on Tues. Jan. 26, 2016 in Wichita. Virginia was born on July 15, 1934 in Hope, KS the daughter of Ted and Marie (Gruber) Schlesener. Virginia and Oliver Riffel were united in marriage in Dec. of 1961 in Salina, KS. Together they celebrated 50 years of marriage before his passing in 2012. She attended St. John’s Lutheran School in Rural Herington, KS. Virginia graduated from Hope High School in 1952. She later worked for St. John’s and Asbury hospitals for 7 years in Salina. She retired after 35 years as a nurse’s assistant from St. Joseph Hospital in Wichita. She was a member of a bowling league and Sweet Adelines in Wichita. She attended Redeemer Lutheran Church and later Grace Lutheran Church both in Wichita. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. Survivors include her loving son, Ron of Wichita, sisters, Lavon Gray of Olathe, KS, Marlene Gottskalkson of Porter, MN, brother, Gene Schlesener of Carlton, KS, grandchildren, Holly, Heidi and Ben and nieces and nephews, David Riffel of Wichita and numerous other family members. Visitation with family present will be on Sun. Jan. 31, 2016 from 1 to 3pm at Lakeview Funeral Home, 12100 E. 13th St. N., Wichita. Funeral services will be 11am on Mon. Feb. 1, 2016 at Grace Lutheran Church, 3310 E. Pawnee St., Wichita. Rev. Geoffrey Boyle will officiate. Burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery, Wichita. Memorials can be made to the Grace Lutheran Church.
