William Lundy "Bill" Boggs

Boggs, William (Bill) Lundy, 89, of Wichita, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 6, 2012. He was born in Winfield, KS, the oldest son of Paul Revere Boggs and Vera Marie Boggs. He is survived by his wife of almost 71 years, Delpha Boggs, one brother, Robert R. Boggs of Winfield, KS., one son, Larry Boggs and wife Cindy of Kimberling City, MO. And one daughter, Janis L. Dunaway and husband Jim of Wichita. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren, Brent Boggs of Wichita, Keicha Wagoner of Kimberling City, MO., Jennifer Parks of Wichita and David Parks of Kansas City, MO., and one great grandchild. He was a lifelong resident of Wichita. He served in the Army during World War II. He took his training at Ft. Hood, Texas, in the Message Center, working with codes. He was sent to Philippines in the South Pacific and he came out of the service at the end of the war as a Tech Sargent 3rd Class – “Entertainment Specialist”. He played his beloved fiddle with the KFH Ark Valley Boys until they moved to KANS radio as the Corral Gang. He was also “Fiddlin’Willie Boggs” on Dusty’s Jamboree which was aired on KAKE TV. He was taught to tune pianos by one of his fellow band members, and he loved working for himself. He eventually bought a book and taught himself how to paint signs, which led him down another path in life by starting Boggs Sign Company in 1952, in which he was joined by his son in 1966 and grew to be one of the leading sign companies in Wichita until they sold out and semi-retired in 1991. Bill was a great mentor, in fact he was responsible for hiring and training several friends and family members in the sign business over the years. He was a member of Glen Park Christian Church, Albert Pike Masonic Lodge, Wichita Consistory, Midian Shrine, where he played with the Hillbilly Band for almost 50 years. He also belonged to Wichita Hi-12 with the Wichita Retired Businessmens’ Club. Viewing is Wednesday 12 to 8 pm with family receiving friends 7 to 8 pm and funeral service is 1:00 pm Thursday, May 10 at Resthaven Mortuary Chapel. Memorials may be sent to Midian Plane of Mercy.
