Willie G. Stephens, of Wichita passed away Saturday, September 14, 2019 in Wichita. He was born January 21st, 1934 in Hollis Oklahoma, a son of Ernest and Janie (Moss) Stephens. He moved with his family to Arkansas after their farm home burned in Oklahoma in 1940. Willie graduated from Alpena High School and married his high school sweet heart, Lela Holt and to this union two sons Ernie and Ron were born. They moved to Wichita where Willie was employed with Coleman, Boeing, Cessna, and retired from Bankers Life and Casualty Insurance Company in 1999. Willie and Lela had a beautiful life together for 57 years before Lela passed away on April 14, 2010. After being single for two years, he married Verda Metz. They enjoyed seven years together. He was a member of Bethel Life Center. He loved music and in his younger years sang in the church with his family. In his senior years he played in a band with some friends. He is preceded in death by his wife Lela, mother and father, four brothers, 3 sisters, step daughter Janie, and a granddaughter. He is survived by his wife Verda of the home, two brothers, two sons, one step daughter, six grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be 10:00am, Thursday, September 19, 2019, at Bethel Life Center with viewing 1 hour prior. Burial will be held after luncheon 1:00pm, at Resthaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in memory of Willie to the National Parkinson’s Foundation.
