

John L Phillips, 86, of The Villages, Florida, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2025 at his home. John was born in Stowe Township, Pittsburgh, PA to John and Rose (Belloma) Phillips. He graduated from Neville Island High School, PA. As a graduate of Slippery Rock University, PA, he earned a bachelor degree in Physical Education and taught in the Fox Chapel Area School District, PA for thirty-three years. John also managed Chapel Gate Swim Club for 25 years. After he retired he worked part-time at Deer Run Golf Course in West Deer Township. John and his wife Janet moved to The Villages in 2006. There they made many new friends. John enjoyed playing softball, golfing, playing games with friends, doing puzzles, and going to movies. During their lives together, they traveled extensively in the U.S. and Europe.
John was preceded in death by his parents John and Rose, brother Richard, and beloved son John C. and sister-in-law Joanie.
John is survived by his wife of 42 years, Janet, brothers Rodney (Barbara), David (Joanie) and Donald (Lorna), daughter Sharon (Chris) of Ashburn, VA, son Brian (Terri) of Gibsonia, PA. daughter-in-law Cindy of Vandergrift, PA, grandson, Mitchell, grand-daughter Taylor and nephew Todd. John was a true gentleman his entire life. He opened doors for everyone, helped others put on their jackets, gave up his seat on buses, and always asked if he could help if he saw someone in need. John will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A celebration of life for John will be held Friday, June 27, 2025 at 12:00 PM at Dignity Memorial Life Celebration Center, 7134 Powell Road, Wildwood, Florida 34785.
