February 18, 1933 - January 25, 2026
Mackey Ray Roberts, 92, of The Villages, Florida passed away peacefully on January 25, 2026. He was born in Lockhart, Texas and was raised in Port Arthur and Groves, Texas. After graduating from high school, he served in the Army in Korea. He always had a kind word for servicemen and women and remembered them in every prayer up until the very end. After returning from Korea, he worked as a lab technician for 5 years with Gulf Refinery in Port Arthur and then 33 years for DuPont in Beaumont, Texas. Mackey was a Christian and held several different positions within Methodist churches in Texas. He attended St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Bridge City, where he lived with his wife, Myra, and children for 15 years. While at St. Paul’s, he held several different positions as well as Sunday school teacher. He enjoyed camping, painting, playing cards, country music (especially George Jones & Johnny Cash), movies, knife collecting, cooking, and had a soft spot for his pets and Texas. He had a competitive streak and excelled in golf, bowling and, in his much younger years, baseball.
He and his wife, Myra, loved their grandchildren very much, and he loved his role as Papa (pronounced PawPaw). At one point, he sold everything he had – home, boat, RV – and moved from his beloved Texas to Florida to help care for his granddaughter. He considered himself a misplaced Texan from then on.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Myra Lewis Roberts, as well as son Michael DeCluitt, daughter Dana DeCluitt Lumpkin, favorite son-in-law Timothy Lumpkin, brother Jim Roberts, sister Elizabeth Murphy, six grandchildren – Lauren Paige Jackson, Cara Lumpkin Allison, Nick Lumpkin, Justin Lumpkin, Elizabeth DeCluitt, Ethan DeCluitt – and six great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, Estebelle Roberts and Earl Roberts, his brother Bobby Roberts, as well as his biological father, Odie Pollock.
Mackey was known to everyone as a good man. He was the best husband, dad, father-in-law, brother, grandfather and son, and will be missed immensely by family and friends. A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held at a later time.
