Gene and I began our lives together in Indianapolis Indiana. He lived on the south side and I was on the northwest side. We both enjoyed the outdoors and spent many weekends fishing and camping in Indiana. Our favorite place was Dogwood Lake in the Glendale Fish & Wildlife area where we tent camped, We also spent many weekends in the Cataract Falls State Recreation Area in the west central area of Indiana.
Our vacations were spent fishing for Walleye in the Boundary Waters along the US/ Canadian boarder. This was we'll drop you off with your gear and a canoe at a certain point and come back in so many days (either 5 or 7 usually) to pick you up. We carried in our food, portaged our gear and canoe on our own while being attacked by Canadian birds ( mosquitoes)We had many, many fishing stories and our vacation pictures all were of water, rocks and one of us holding a picture of "the big one" that we caught. We did share fun family vacations there with Genes brother and wife and one with my brother and his children. We also had a bear in camp (when we were out fishing) but since we hung our food pack between two trees he didn't get our food.
Our Florida lifestyle began when he retired from Navistar. We moved first to South Florida near my daughter and we owned a saltwater boat for fishing the intercoastal. Gene was the "helper Grandpa" for our grandsons little League team for 2 seasons. He also started golfing there. He had golfed earlier back in high school.
When we moved to The Villages he started really golfing and I took lessons. We were hooked on golfing for good!! He was more of a late afternoon golfer. We had some friends who lived across the street that suggested taking square dance lessons. Gene said yes and my eyes rolled back into my head. But guess what? We both love to square dance!!! It became a big part of our lives very quickly. And the rest is, as they say, to be continued...
