Willard, Ohio – My husband, my best friend and the love of my life, Willis Hicks went peacefully in his sleep July 4, 2013 to a better place after losing a terrible battle with cancer. He was a patient at the Willows in Willard. Willis was born May 4, 1928 in Floyd County, KY, but spent the most of his life in Willard.
He was a WWII Veteran serving his country in the U.S. Army. Willis taught himself many different jobs: building, painting, roofing and others. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family and friends, but his love of gardening and sharing his bounty with family, friends and strangers were the small things that made him happy. His vegetable gardens were masterpieces.
He was larger than life to all of us, his family. He faced many health problems that would have stopped many in their tracks, but he had a strong will to live; and with the Lords Blessings, he survived them all but this one. We never wanted to let him go, but we are grateful that he is no longer in pain. He was the wind beneath our wings and hopefully when he soars above us he will smile that beautiful smile he always had for everyone.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 54 years, Gladys, 2 sons; Dean of Euclid, OH and David (Sharon) of Willard; and 3 daughters; Kathy of Oberlin, OH; Wanda (Roger) of Bucyrus, OH, and LaDale (Corbett) of Salyersville, KY
In addition to his parents, Dan and Susie (Wright) Hicks, he was preceded in death by his son, Kenneth Lee in 2005, Brothers, Curtis, Glen, Robert, Eugene, Paul and Ellis; Sisters; Kathleen, Nancy and Ruby.
He is survived by Brothers; Carl and Jackie; Sisters; Ruth and Rita. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren; Shane, Jenny, Jeremy, glen, Andres, Cameron, Willy, Kelley Jo, Kim, Aaron, Shannon, Susan, Steve, Teddy, and Rev. David Webb. He is also survived by too many great grandchildren to mention but he loved them all.
A memoral serivce will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 20, 2013 at the Lindsey-Kocher Funeral Service, 323 Myrtle Ave, Willard and online condolences may be made at http://www.lindseykocher.com/. Memorial contributions may be made to Stein Hospice Care of Sandusky.
