He was born July 15, 1948 in New York City, the son of George Bennett Stackhouse and Adeleen (Harbour) Stackhouse.
Allan attended Brooklyn Tech High School and Georgia Tech, where he graduated in 1971. He was a member of Chi Psi Fraternity. On October 25, 1975, he married Katherine (Kathy) MacMillan of Clifton, NJ.
After working for the USPS for several years, Allan retired and he and Kathy moved from Haskell, NJ to Williamsburg, VA in 2003.
Allan was very smart, kind, witty and generous. He supported many ministries, both here and abroad and gave a substantial gift to enable Grove Christian Outreach Center to build a new, larger facility in 2013. He also volunteered his time there for several years.
Allan liked to collect stamps, coins and intricately carved pipes, including one he carved himself. While in college, he wrote a collection of poems, which are now bound in a booklet entitled, IT’S NOT EASY, BEING ME. THOUGHTS ON GOD, LOVE AND LIFE.
He and Kathy liked to camp and traveled up and down the East Coast for vacation. They especially enjoyed meeting other Chi Psi’s for dinner in Atlanta and attending the Georgia Tech Homecoming football games and joined other Georgia Tech alumni on a memorable trip on the American Queen steamboat, which traveled down the Mississippi from Memphis to New Orleans.
Allan loved animals and was a “Daddy” to a rabbit and six much-loved dogs over his lifetime.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, John Ewell Harbour Stackhouse, of New York City. Surviving in addition to his wife are his brother, George Bennett Stackhouse III of Wadmalaw Island, SC; and his sister, Elizabeth Ann Chase of Florence, SC; and many nieces and nephews.
Allan will be interned in the Stackhouse plot in Mullins, SC.
