Barbara Ann Morrison, “47,” of Williamsburg, VA, passed away in her sleep on January 10, 2023 beside her cat, Tilly. She was predeceased by her mother, Alice; her father, Edward; and her husband, Gene. She is survived by her sons, Shane and Heath; daughters-in-law, Maria and Jennifer; and grandchildren, Samantha, Zachary, and Claire. She was better known as “Mamaw,” insisting on never being called “grandma.”
Born and raised in London, England, she spent her early days singing and getting into mischief at her father’s pub. Her devotion to singing persisted when she left London to start a family in the United States. She sang in live productions, at local churches, and to just about everyone she met. She and Gene created art through musicals and their participation in the British Embassy Players in Washington, D.C.; she performed on stage, while Gene cheered her on as stage manager. She nourished her time with reading, writing poetry, sharing her love of England with others, and aspired to write a book about her colorful life.
Her love for England flourished even after she left the United Kingdom; she remained loyal to Queen Elizabeth II, passionately indulged in tea, and remained a self-proclaimed “True Brit” until the end. She rejoins her many fur babies that crossed the rainbow bridge during her life, whom she loved and spoiled. Her last holiday season was spent surrounded by family, laughing and making beautiful memories.
Celebration of Life will be held at Lighthouse Baptist Church in Alexandria, VA, on February 11 at 11:30AM. Reception will follow.
