Bonita C. Reid passed away suddenly in her home on June 27, 2020, with family by her side. Her life began on June 17, 1956, in Williamsburg, Virginia, the daughter of the late Pernell W. Reid, Sr., and Rachel M. Reid. At the early age of 7 years old, Bonita was struck by an automobile that left her a paraplegic. However, that did not stop her from taking advantage of all that life had to offer. She participated in the Paralympic Games, where she received medals for throwing the shot put, disc, and javelin. After graduating from Lafayette High School, Bonita attended Woodrow Wilson Workforce and Rehabilitation Center and Thomas Nelson Community College where she studied Information Technology . She used that technical training to secure employment with the Federal Government, where she was employed at Fort Eustis. After retiring she was appointed by the Governor to an Independent Living Board, because of her success in traversing life despite the limitations of her disability. Bonita also owned and operated her own craft business, preparing floral arrangements for gifts, parties and weddings. As a young adult, Bonita studied the Bible and became one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. She became a pioneer, teaching others about the Bible. It was her faith that gave her the joyful attitude, encouragement, and desire to persevere, despite her ailments. Bonita enjoyed traveling, shopping, cooking, crafts, and spending time with family and friends. Bonita leaves to cherish her fond memories her sister, Lenora G. Reid (son Bradley C. Reid) of Williamsburg, VA; brothers Clifton G. Washington, Jr. (Joyce) of Virginia Beach, VA, and Pernell W. Reid, Jr. of DeQueen, AR; and a host of other family and friends.
