She was born February 14, 1943 in Wilkes-Barre, PA to Norman and Alice (Yauk) Wielgosz. Her parents and her older brother Norman, preceded her in death.
Graduating from GAR High School in Wilkes-Barre in 1960, Bonnie was accepted into Nesbitt Memorial Hospital’s Nursing Program in Kingston, PA. Upon graduation and approved as a Board Certified Registered Nurse (RN), she began her nursing career at Nesbitt Memorial Hospital in Kingston, PA then later at the following medical facilities: New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, formerly known as Cornell Medical Center, New York City, NY, St. Francis Hospital, Honolulu, HI, and TRICARE Military Family Health Clinic in Woodbridge, VA. Throughout her career she was highly regarded and respected for her nursing technical skills, medical knowledge, and great rapport with patients and medical staff.
Following a lifelong passion of travel, she went to Hawaii for the adventure of a lifetime. There she met the love of her life, Patrick Hiu, and after a brief courtship they were married in Wilkes-Barre, PA in 1968. Little did she know at the time that she would adventure with him through his Army career as a dedicated military spouse, mother and nurse, before retiring together in Virginia.
Her family was her greatest joy, a fact she enjoyed sharing with her friends around the country. Without a doubt she was dedicated to her family as a spouse, mother, grandmother, and to her immense delight, great grandma. Though she loved reading and Hallmark, her life’s story was better than fiction.
Bonnie is survived by her love, COL (ret) Patrick; son LTC (ret) Eric; daughter-in-law, Katherine; granddaughters, CPT Jesse King, Ana, and Alexa; grandson, McDaniel; grandson-in-law, Maj Joshua King; and great granddaughter, Grace King.
