Born in NY state on February 14, 1941, Bruce was raised in the Shaker Heights neighborhood of Cleveland, OH. Bruce attended The Academy of the New Church (Swedenborgian) in Pennsylvania followed by several years at Texas Tech University. While in Texas, Bruce earned both a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering.
His last year at TTU was enriched by his new wife, Donna, a local coed attending Texas Tech. Upon graduation, Bruce and Donna took a late honeymoon at Yellowstone National Park on their way to his first job with the Boeing Company.
After three enjoyable years in the Seattle area, which included the birth of his first son, Bruce took a job in the paper industry and moved the family to Springfield, OR. Soon after, the second son was born in nearby Eugene, OR.
Bruce remained in the paper industry for more than 30 years moving the family from one mill to another due to frequent layoffs and mergers which were very common in that industry. Bruce's specialty was control of industrial processes via specialized computer programs.
Bruce and Donna both retired in 2008. During their post-retirement years, the couple enjoyed volunteerism, outdoor activities and national and international travel.
Donna remained Bruce's faithful companion until he passed away. The couple had been married since June,1965.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Williamsburg Presbyterian Church, 215 Richmond Rd, Williamsburg, VA 23185 on March 12, 2026, at 11:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, charitable donations may be made in Bruce's memory to the charity of one's own choosing. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.NelsenWilliamsburg.com.
