Bruce Wildenberger, 96, left to be with the Lord on July 3, 2018. Bruce was the beloved father of Pamela Wildenberger of Toano and Paul Wildenberger and his wife Rebecca of Williamsburg. He was the treasured grandfather of Conner and Elaina Wildenberger of Williamsburg. He is additionally survived by his brother Richard Wildenberger and his wife Marian, his sister-in-law, Marge Wildenberg, and many nephews and nieces whom he loved. He is preceded in death by his wife, Doris Wildenberger, his parents, Charles and Louise Wildenberger, his brother, Charles Wildenberg, his sisters, Louise Carter, Marjorie Thorne, and Florence McNeil. Born in 1921 in Carbondale, PA, Bruce also outlived most everyone else he ever knew. Bruce served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He moved to Virginia after the war and went to work in the paint department of Colonial Williamsburg where he was employed until his retirement 37 years later. He was introduced to his future wife, Doris, in 1950. Not one to be rushed, Bruce asked her out on their first date ten years later. Once married in 1962, he made up for lost time and was never away from Doris for more than a few days in a row. Bruce was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church of Norge, VA for over 50 years. He served on the property committee and the council, as a trustee, and a long standing member of the choir. Taking up golf in his late 30s, he fell in love with the game and played often until his mid 80s. Bruce always kept a vegetable garden in his backyard and was known by his family and friends for his sweet cucumber pickles, dubbed 'Papa's Pickles' by his grandchildren. Bruce had a 'dry' sense of humor which is apparently an inherited trait. A funeral service will be held at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church on Saturday, August 18th, at 11 AM with a reception following.
