Carol P. Towle, age 90, died on Tuesday, July 27, 2021. She was born on November 29, 1930 in Boston, Massachusetts to E. Kenneth and Helen (Skinner) Peterson. She was a graduate of Westwood High School in Massachusetts and Lasell Junior College in Auburndale, Massachusetts. She majored in Art and Art History and was an avid painter. Upon graduation she was employed as an editor by Rust Craft Greeting Cards. She met her husband on a blind date and married Leland (Lee) Towle on June 5, 1953 and together they had three children (1 son and 2 daughters). After 1 year in California and 2 years in Alaska as an Air Force Officer’s wife where Lee was stationed, she and family settled in Palo Alto and Los Altos Hills, California. In 1974 they relocated to Great Falls, Virginia. In addition to her significant role as mother and homemaker, she enjoyed a career as a beauty consultant for Mary Kay Cosmetics. She also enjoyed working with the Great Falls Players. Carol liked puzzles, music, dance, animals, flowers, travel, nature walks and friendships. She also enjoyed cooking, going to restaurants and museums, the theater and concerts. She was caretaker to many pet animals over the years and was an avid cat-lover. Carol had a special place in her heart for the island of Islesboro, Maine where her family had summer cottages right on the water at Hewes Point. She spent many summers there growing up and continued to enjoy with husband Lee and children for many more years. After the children were grown and Lee retired, they moved to Burgess, Virginia on the Northern Neck. There she really enjoyed swimming in the pool, walking and getting together with friends. In addition to foreign travel and a few cruises, they spent a month on Siesta Key, Florida every Feb.-March for several years meeting many new returning friends. In 2015, she and Lee moved to Williamsburg and ultimately to WindsorMeade Retirement Community. At WindsorMeade, Carol made many new friends and was very active serving on the Dining Committee, the Social Committee and participating in many of the trip adventures and social events. She continued the usual trips to Islesboro and Siesta Key and enjoyed the good life offered by WindsorMeade from their lovely villa facing the woods and a pond. Carol is survived by her husband Lee (Leland); her three children, Peter Kimball Towle and his wife Denise of Redmond, Oregon; Gretchen Maynard and husband Dave of Prescott, Arizona; Michelle and her husband Bill of Thousand Oaks, California; grandsons, David Maynard and companion Monica of Reno, Nevada; Alex Maynard of Reno, Nevada; and granddaughters, Miri Aurora and Jasleen Aurora of Thousand Oaks, California. She also leaves many cousins in New Hampshire, one in Connecticut, nephews in New Hampshire and Maine and a grandniece in West Palm Beach, Florida.
