From 1975 through 1977, she was assigned to the American Embassy in Paris. During that period, she married her husband who also worked at the State Department. Following that assignment, they transferred to Belgrade, Yugoslavia from 1977 through 1979. Upon completion of that assignment, the two were transferred back to Washington DC. Following the birth of their first child, she transferred from the Foreign Service to the State Department Civil Service. While working in Washington, she worked about 10 years in the Bureau of Diplomatic Security, with the remaining time spent supporting Department of State Contracting for the Bureau of Information Resource Management and the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement.
