

Charles was happily married to Ann Hager Secter for 65 years.
He is survived by his wife, Ann; son, Charles J. Secter and his wife Inga of Henrico; daughter, Amy of Williamsburg; grandchildren, Michael and Kelly Wohlers, Nicole Wohlers, Kayla Secter, Juliette Tacchi, Michelle Secter, and Matthew Tacchi; and great-granddaughter, Rory Wohlers. He is also survived by his niece-in-law, Nancy and nephews, Chip and James McBride of Little Neck, New York; as well as many nieces and nephews on his wife's side in New York, Connecticut, and Massachusetts.
He is predeceased by his parents, Charles and Victoria Secter; sister, Theresa McBride; nephews, Johnny, Charlie and Robert McBride; and his border collie, Tigger.
After a brief time in the Air Force, Charlie became a New York City policeman in 1958, earning Bachelor's and Master's degrees from John Jay College. He attained the rank of Sergeant in the Criminal Justice Bureau Liaison Division and later Lieutenant in the MISD division, where he assisted with interfacing its early computer system with the New York State and FBI's systems. After his retirement in 1990, he earned a second Master's Degree from CW Post in Library Science and became a research librarian for Hofstra University.
He served his community as a volunteer firefighter in the Stewart Manor Fire Department from 1966 until he retired and relocated to Williamsburg, Virginia in 2008. During his retirement, he enjoyed reading, walking Tigger, and playing cards with his family.
Affectionately known as "Pa" to his grandchildren and their friends, he will be forever remembered for his devotion to Ann, generosity, love of family and bad jokes.
A visitation will be held Monday, July 24 from 6:00-8:00pm at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd., Williamsburg. Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Olaf Catholic Church, 104 Norge Lane, Williamsburg on Tuesday, July 25 at 11:00 AM. He will be laid to rest in the St. Olaf Columbarium.
