

Clarence Ellis, Jr. of Williamsburg, Virginia passed away peacefully at home on October 28, 2024 at the age of 95. He was predeceased by his parents Marian and Clarence Ellis, Sr. of Emeigh Pennsylvania; and brothers Jack, Charles, Robert and Herbert.
He is survived by his loving wife of 75 years, Shigeru (Jerry) Ellis; sister, Phyllis Schmidt; sons, Jack Ellis (Lisa) of Boston, Massachusetts and Robert Ellis (Deborah) of Williamsburg, Virginia; grandchildren, Jason Ellis (Laura), Elisha Ellis, Robert Condon Ellis, and Kayla Condon Ellis; and great grandchild, Tara Ellis Vaughn, as well as many nieces and nephews.
At the age of 17 Clarence Joined the Army and served in World War II and the Korean War, earning a National Defense Service Medal. He was also stationed in Japan and Europe serving in the capacity of train terminal operations director as well as conductor/engineer. It was while serving in Japan he met and married his wife, Jerry. They returned to the States, eventually settling in Williamsburg, Virginia. He retired after 20 years of service.
He continued his lifelong passion for trains as a train engineer at Cheatham Annex Naval Weapons Station an additional 20 years before retiring.
He enjoyed a long, rich life, full of adventure, travel and memories. He was a kind and generous soul who greeted every day and everyone with a smile. Always the first to step forward and volunteer or lend a hand whatever the need or cause. He was very proud of his military service, but above all else, he was most proud of his family.
He was an active member of the LDS church and taught the children's primary class. He also served in the LDS Washington Temple for many years.
We will greatly miss this remarkable man.
A visitation will be held Thursday, November 7, 2024 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd., Williamsburg, Virginia. A funeral service will occur Friday, November 8, 2024 at 12:00 PM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 2017 Newman Road, Williamsburg, Virginia. Interment will follow at Williamsburg Memorial Park, 130 King William Drive, Williamsburg, Virginia.
