Clifford “Brick” Wayne Stratton, Jr. lived an amazing life. He was a beloved son, brother, husband, dad, grampa, and friend. Throughout his life he was devoted to his family, faith, learning, and service. Brick was a third generation Colorado native. Born in Denver, Colorado, on November 5, 1948 to Barbaralee Terrell and Clifford Stratton. He grew up with his two younger brothers, Rusty and Dusty, active in all sports, Eagle Scouts, and school. He attended Denver Lutheran High School where he met his best friend and love of his life, Barbara (Hecht) at age 14. On September 6, 1969 Brick and Barbara married at Emmaus Lutheran Church in Denver. Brick graduated from Colorado School of Mines in 1971 with a degree in Petroleum Engineering and was commissioned in the US Army Reserves that same year. In 1972 Brick attended basic school with the US Army Corps of Engineers at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. Returning to Colorado in late 1972, Brick worked as an electrician in Boulder. He began his professional career as a petroleum engineer in 1973 and was well respected in his field. He worked for various investment banks and private oil companies before establishing his own successful venture, Barbrick Investment Company, where he worked until he retired in 2016. Brick lived a life of service always putting others before himself. He was a devoted dad to Marty and Johnny and role model to many of his sons’ peers. He coached Marty’s soccer team for six years and never missed a single soccer game of Johnny’s. He filled weekends with boosters and fundraising activities supporting both Marty and Johnny’s soccer teams. Brick’s service reached far beyond his family. He was an Elder at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church. He was a founding member, Elder, Chairman of the congregation, confirmation instructor, and finance committee member at Risen Savior Lutheran Church. Brick was a dedicated member and then Treasurer of the Westminster 7:10 Rotary Club. Brick was an avid golfer, longtime member, and President of The Ranch Country Club Board of Directors. The deep friendships Brick developed with The Ranch Horsegroup were never replicated. He and Barbara enjoyed golfing at The Ranch and around the country with their friends and various golf groups. His favorite golf partner was his closest and most devoted friend, and brother-in-law, Art Bavoso. The adventures of their favorite foursome, consisting of Brick, Barbara, Art and Johnna, extended well beyond the golf course with love and laughter that anchored their families scattered around the globe. In 2017 Brick and Barbara set off on an exciting new retirement adventure together, leaving the only home they’d known (Colorado) and settled into Williamsburg, Virginia. Brick quickly found a new golf home at Williamsburg National Golf Club, where he was immediately open-heartedly welcomed into the WNGC family and where he proudly accomplished three holes in one in a single golf season. Though Brick’s professional and service accomplishments are many, his greatest legacy is his family. He was proud Grampa to Andy, Alexa, Samantha, Jack, and Lila Stratton, making special time with each to attend their shows, performances, and sporting events. He created lasting memories with each. Brick was preceded in death by his parents and brother Rusty Stratton. He is survived by his wife, soul mate, and angel on earth, Barbara Stratton, two loving sons Marty Stratton (Gennifer) and Johnny Stratton (Tara), his brother Dusty Stratton (Georgeann), and sister-in-law Mary. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Wounded Warrior Project in Brick’s name. Cards may be sent to the Stratton family in care of Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd, Williamsburg, VA 23188.
