After receiving his degree at USC School of Dentistry, Dale answered the call of the U.S. Navy. He first served in the Korean War, followed by other overseas assignments on the U.S.S. Curtiss and the U.S.S. Tidewater. Retiring after 25 years, Dale continued his career doing dental research for 3M Company.
His lifelong passion was sharing the love of gardening with his four children. Shirley, his wife of 69 years patiently assisted with his gardening experiments, as they often invaded the kitchen.
Dale became an expert in composting and enjoyed sharing his knowledge by conducting seminars for the JCC/Williamsburg Master Gardeners. He also donated countless hours to their programs and took pride in his MG Emeritus Award.
Above all, Dale loved his Lord Jesus and faithfully served Him, especially in the Ministry of Healing.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley, 95; four children, Barbara Parsons and husband, Ed of Williamsburg, Bruce Firestone and wife, Jan of Newport News, Virginia, MaryBeth Andersen and husband, Ben of Brisbane, Australia and Lois Kotzin and husband, Rick of Libby, Montana; 9 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
A private family service will be held at a later date. Online condolences may be offered at www.nelsenwilliamsburg.com.
