Edward Darden Baines, 83, of Williamsburg, VA, passed away on June 26, 2018. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanne W. Baines; parents, Novella and Burleigh Baines; stepmother, Virginia Felton Baines; and brother, Benjamin A. Baines.
While working in Federal Civil Service, Darden retired from the National Guard Bureau as Deputy Director of Budget and Manpower. He also retired from the Virginia Army National Guard as Chief Warrant Officer. Darden was a member of Williamsburg United Methodist Church and was a member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce and Two Rivers Country Club. He did extensive national and international travel and was an avid golfer.
Darden is survived by his sister, Virginia Baines Salmon and her husband, Jack Salmon, Sr.; a special nephew, Jack Salmon, Jr., and his wife, Wanda; great-nephew, Austin Salmon; sister-in-law, Nancy Baines; and companion, Shirley Steimel.
A visitation will be held at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd., Williamsburg, VA from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, June 29, 2018. A service will take place at Williamsburg United Methodist Church, 500 Jamestown Rd., Williamsburg, VA on Saturday, June 30 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, Contributions may be made to Darden’s favorite charity, the Virginia Wounded Warriors Program, 900 E. Main St., Ground Floor, Richmond, Virginia 23219.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to all the doctors, nurses and caregivers who provided loving care and professional services to Darden while at M.D. Anderson Medical Center in Houston, Texas, Sentara Medical Center in Williamsburg, Virginia and at his home.
