Originally from the Chicago, IL, area, Fred had previously been a volunteer firefighter in Illinois and Michigan, Fred continued his passion in the Williamsburg area by being an active volunteer photographer for the James City County Fire Department. An avid bird and animal lover, Fred was able to share his passion through his employment at Wild Birds Unlimited.
A Greensprings Plantation Neighborhood Association Member, Fred enjoyed helping his community by taking charge of landscape operations to help make the neighborhood look its best; Fred could always be found outside saying hello to neighbors and made sure to be prepared with dog treats for the dog walkers. Fred enjoyed golfing, shooting, learning about history and the military, and being an avid Auburn University Fan.
Fred is survived by his wife, Jennifer McCahey; his daughters, Megan McCahey and Katherine (Conner) Harden; and his grandchildren, Nate, Bentley, Hallie, and Preslee Harden. Fred is also survived by his sisters, Mary Claire Ryan, Norine Dugan, Julie Rogers, and Jennie McCahey. He was preceded in death by his mother, Norine McCahey; his brother, Miles McCahey; and his father, Frederick M. McCahey.
