Fredrick William Haecker of Williamsburg, VA began his journey to his heavenly home on Friday, April 6, 2018. Born on January 20, 1935 in Bronx, New York, he was the only son of Theo Haecker and Luise Erb Haecker. Fred enjoyed telling folks the U.S. government held a big parade for him in Washington, D.C. every four years, (Inaugural Day Parade). Both of Fred’s parents immigrated to the U.S. from Germany in the 1920’s. He attended New York University earning a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering and a Master of Science in Operations Research, completing both degrees after twelve years of evening studies. He was a member of Psi Upsilon fraternity at NYU and was a veteran of the U.S. Army Reserves. An avid, life-long fan of the New York Yankees, Fred also rooted for college teams where his daughters and grandchildren attended.
Fred met the love of his life, Edith Rostron, at a German dance in Yorkville, NY. They were married on May 26, 1957 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Yonkers, NY. In addition to his wife, Edith, he was blessed with and survived by three daughters: Carol Haecker, Susan Morgan (Craig), and Kristin McGraw (Patrick). He also leaves four beloved grandchildren: Lindsay Morgan Bicknell (Kendall), Craig F. Morgan, Conner McGraw and Aidan McGraw, of whom he was extremely proud, and his great grandchildren, Hays and Eliza Bicknell, who were the joy of his life. He also leaves his very special friends, Al and Annemarie Meyer and his cousins, Marilyn and Rudy Gehr.
Professionally, Fred spent 32 years developing information and passenger processing systems for airlines including Pan Am, TWA, Piedmont and USAir and contributed to the development of the first online booking system available to the public.
Since 1997 Fred and Edith enjoyed residing in Ford’s Colony where he formed the FC Investors Club. He also enjoyed gardening, landscaping and decorating his home at Christmas. His family want to thank Dr. Christopher Massengill, Dr. John Miller, CON Sharon Carter, and Sentara Hospice for their excellent care.
Fred was a member of St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Williamsburg where a celebration of life will be conducted by Reverends Andy Ballentine and Cheryl Ann Griffin on Saturday, April 14 at 1:00 p.m. A reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions would be appreciated to St. Stephen Lutheran Church’s Music Program, Hospice House of Williamsburg or Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital’s Fetal Surgery Center in Houston, Texas.
“Those that we hold most dear to our hearts never leave us; they live on in the fond memories that we will always share. The kindnesses that they showed, the comfort they shared, the caring that they portrayed, the love that they brought into our hearts will be cherished eternally.”
