Prior to moving to Williamsburg, Gary lived in Fairport, New York. He was an engineer and employee of the Eastman Kodak Company. His early goal was to retire at the age of 55 and move to Williamsburg, Virginia so that he could golf or fish year round. His goal was met. Gary was an avid golfer and fisherman up until the day of his sudden illness. Gary’s love of travel took he and Paulette all over the world, experiencing life to its fullest.
Gary is survived by his wife, Paulette (Beale) Atkinson; daughter, Cindy Hamrick; two grandchildren, Sarah Osmen and Steven Davis; and three great-grandchildren, Amelia, Owen and Jaxon; one sister, Christy Nelson; and many sister and brother-in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins who will miss him terribly. He played such an important role in their lives.
A Celebration of Life will be held in January at the Ford’s Colony Country Club in Williamsburg, Virginia. Online condolences for the family may be expressed at www.nelsencares.com
