Georg Walter Siegert, age 96, died peacefully on Monday, August 28, 2017 while in hospice care. He was born in Berlin, Germany on January 15, 1921. In Berlin, he attended Actors Academy of the West, worked as an actor and assistant stage director at many professional German theaters, mostly in Berlin. He was announcer and radio actor with the American radio station RIAS in Berlin. He immigrated to the United States in 1951. From 1952 to 1984 he worked for the German Division of the Voice of America as chief announcer, producer-director and department chief. After retirement in 1984, he served as Washington correspondent for several European radio stations, narrator for several U.S. Government films produced by the U.S. Army, Department of Agriculture, National Park Service and the U.S. Information Agency; and provided German narration and voice over work for several local recording studios. He performed one summer season with the Olney Theater, MD and performed with the Washington Concert Opera as the Major-Domo, in the Richard Strauss opera Ariadne auf Naxos under the direction of Stephen Crout.
