Hubert C. (Bert) Peltier, 90, of Williamsburg, Virginia, passed away peacefully on July 4, 2015, with his family present. He was born April 6, 1925 in New York, New York and resided in Williamsburg, Virginia for the past 23 years, after having lived in Indiana, Michigan, New York, Pennsylvania, Tokyo Japan, South Carolina, and Florida. He graduated from Manhattan College in 1943 and Indiana University’s School of Medicine in 1948. He served in the U.S. Army and Air Force. He was a physician in a private practice for pediatrics after receiving his M.D. He then served as Research Physician, Chief of Clinical Development, and Manager of Clinical Research for the Upjohn Company; Vice President & Medical Director for Bristol Laboratories; and then after having worked seventeen years for Merck Sharpe & Dohme Research Labs, he finished his career as Senior Vice President of International Corporate Affairs. He then served as consultant and interim Director of Medical Affairs for Sterling Winthrop. He was certified by the American Board of Pediatrics, served as Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, was a member of the American Medical Association, the American Society of Microbiologists, and the American Society for Clinical Pharmacology & Therapeutics. He was also a member of the Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association where he served as Vice Chairman of the Research Section and Chairman. Bert loved reading and music and was an accomplished pianist. Bert was an avid sports fan and loved to play golf, bridge, and poker. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Joan, of Williamsburg; daughter, Jan Draber and husband, Skip, of Vienna, WV; daughter, Marcia Brinker and husband, Chris, of Wilmington, DE; daughter, Karen Riggert and husband, Dave, of Groton, MA; son, Bret William Peltier, of Kitty Hawk, NC; and son, Jeffrey Hubert Peltier, of Kennett Square, PA; grandchildren, Brandon Peltier; Ross and Lauren Draber; Eric, Ryan and Keith Brinker; Julie, Sarah, and Jacob Riggert; daughter-in-law, Nancy Peltier; sister, Margaret Stapleton; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Mark Edward Peltier. A private service will be held in Williamsburg, VA at a later date.
