James Edward Akright, 89, a longtime resident of Williamsburg, passed away on September 8, 2013. He served many years as a Transportation Specialist with the Department of Defense and was a member of St. Olaf Roman Catholic Church. James also served in the Navy during WW II and the Korean War.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Catherine; sons, James Michael and John Barrett (Christina); daughters, Barbara Valentich (Richard), Mary Lynn Dougherty (William), Phyllis Ray Holbrook (Scott); and 9 grandchildren.
A gathering of friends will be held on Wednesday, September 11, from 6-8pm at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd., Williamsburg. A Funeral Mass will be offered on Thursday, September 12, at the St. Olaf Roman Catholic Church at 1pm. Interment will take place at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.
