John was born April 24, 1937 to Nolan Fern and Helen Shaw Farris of Lamont, Pennsylvania. After graduating from Washington-Lee High School in Arlington, Virginia, he went on to study English at Oberlin College in Ohio. After graduation, John served honorably in the United States Navy and retired as a Commander. He proudly worked for the United States Information Agency as an editor for the Voice of America for over thirty-five years.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
John is survived by his loving wife of fifty-two years, Sue; brother, Walter Farris (Caron); two daughters, Rachel Rapee (Alan) and Rebecca Schell (Barclay); four adoring grandchildren, Evan, Eric, Amber and Carsyn; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service in his honor will be held at a later date.
