

Kathleen was born on February 7, 1934 in Birmingham, Alabama. She graduated from Misses Bonnie and Pearl Howard’s High School for Girls in 1952. She attended Samford Baptist University where she received her BA degree in English and Music. After Samford, she continued her studies at George Washington University in Washington, DC where she earned her MEd. degree in Educational Administration and Supervision. She loved music. She was a member of the Southside Baptist Church in Birmingham where she sang in the Senior Choir and was a classical soloist in the Senior Ladies Choir. Kathleen was a dedicated teacher. She began her teaching career in Birmingham and then accepted a teaching position in Puerto Rico where she met her husband, Bill Halteman. Bill was a pilot in the Air Force, and they were married on July 29, 1959. Their love and life together would span 52 years.
Bill’s military career took him to many places in the world and while Bill traveled, Kathleen continued to teach. After spending 17 years teaching in the Virginia Beach school system, Kathleen decided to leave the classroom and work in administration before finally retiring.
Bill and Kathleen then settled down in Kingsmill, Williamsburg, Virginia where they enjoyed playing tennis and golf. Kathleen served as President of the Kingsmill Ladies 18 Hole Golf Association. She loved all sports, and she could always be found rooting for her favorite football team or watching her favorite golfer on the PGA tour. She and Bill also loved their cats who were regular companions for any and every activity at home, including watching sports on TV. Bill and Kathleen loved to travel and were lucky enough to visit Scandinavia, Egypt, Israel, Australia, Canada, and many other places.
Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence Methvin, Sr. and Leslie Neva McIntire; by her six brothers: Thomas, Clarence, Jr., Lee, Cecil, Leslie and Howard; also by her brother-in-law Lt. Clemence W. Halteman, Jr., her sister-in-law, Dolores “Dilly” Halteman Carril and her brother-in-law, Peter J. Carril; and by her loving husband, Lt. Col. William O. Halteman. Kathleen is survived by 29 nieces and nephews on the Methvin side of her family, and by a niece, Lisa D. Carril of Hopewell, NJ, and a nephew, Peter J. Carril of Princeton, NJ, on the Halteman side.
A memorial service and interment at Arlington National Cemetery will take place at a later date. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Nelsen Funeral Home in Williamsburg, Virginia.
