Kath was my very best friend.  We went to art school together and we latched onto each other from day one. We laughed our asses off every time we saw or called each other. She’d tease me relentlessly which I absolutely loved cuz I knew that’s how she showed me that she loved me.  We worked together for three years at GE and because of her, I couldn’t wait to get to work on a daily basis because we both clicked and both worked hard, and laughed hard throughout the day. Every day.  

She was the first person I called when I lost my husband and later, my son because she was my “person”.  

Alas, now there’s another hole in my sole that cannot be filled.  

Rick, Mika and Alec…know that  I love you all and I’ll be walking around my house talking to Kath on a daily basis.

I was so sad to read that Kath had passed away. I remember her fondly from when I lived here in 2007-2011. She was my massage therapist but also became a friend. I tried to find her last year when I moved back to Williamsburg but unfortunately we didn't connect. My thoughts and prayers are with your family.

We went to school together, she was in my sister’s class. I remember her incredible artistic talent, way back in elementary school, Nathaniel Hawthorne. 

I was so sorry to learn of her passing and send my condolences to her family.


My thoughts and prayers are with the family of Kath Catalano. I loved her very much and appreciated her friendship through the years. She was always a joy to be around. She supported me in so many ways as a music teacher at Rawls Byrd. She was very artistic and did many sets for musicals at school. She was a wonderful parent and President of the harp program known as Helping Harps. She brought much happiness into my life, and I will always love and miss her. 

What a pleasure it was to know Kath through line dancing! My deepest sympathy and condolences to her family and friends. The dance community has lost a very special person. Rest in peace, Kath! ❤️🫂

Kath was such a capable, generous, dedicated line dance instructor. It seemed to me that she was instantly good at any activity or endeavor she tried: massage, tap dance, music, games, and so many more. Everyone in our classes thought the world of her and felt privileged to be her student. Plus, Kath was so much fun to be with! It was a privilege to know her. She is sorely missed.

Kath's 60th birthday was celebrated at the Moose lodge in 2019. Those candles were hot, but the fire extinguisher was at hand! 

I was so sorry to hear of Kath's passing. She meant so much to the line dance community in Williamsburg. Kath was an amazing instructor. She was so helpful and encouraging to me and others. Will miss her. She is in my thoughts and prayers.


We lost another kind person too early.  
I was an only kid, but I was never a lonely kid. Such a wonderful group of friends for over 50 years. I cannot express the gratitude for the wonderful memories and oh what great fun we had. I will always remember Kathy for her kindness, incredible art skills, and her wonderful sense of humor.  Rick and Alec and Mika, I wish I could be there but I bet that big storm last night was Kathy getting up to heaven.

Kath was a special person and dear friend. I am heartbroken that we were not able to grow old together. I loved our trips going to line dance festivals, movie nights and lunches around town. Kath accepted people for who they were and helped them feel comfortable expressing themselves. She was dearly loved by all who knew here.

Here are memories of time I spent with Kath and how she enriched my life.  I met Kath in Line Dancing class.   She was such a great teacher,  so encouraging to each student;  "you can do it"  when we became discouraged.  She  taught us the latest dances so our brain would be engaged in addition to our bodies . We went to many Line Dance Festivals. Once I knew she was a massage therapist, I  had massages for many years which she finished off with tuning forks,   Crystal bowls, and other sound therapies.  She introduced me to Taiko drumming and we went to concerts.   Kath loved to play games and our Dance group had many hilarious sessions.  Her dance group is still intact.  We often discuss the way Kath taught us.    We talked a lot:  I miss that, I miss her humor, her spirit, her very presence.             My condolences to all who loved her,  as I did.     

It was always a pleasure working with Kath in the PT clinic.  She was a true FIGHTER and I very much enjoyed working with her each week.  Her personality and work ethic were motivating and infectious.  I will pull out some LEGO's to play with in the clinic this week in her honor...

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.  You are now at peace and have no pain.  I have missed you on the dance floor for several years.  I remember our first conversation in the ladies restroom in Louisa at Dancin' Dean's workshop.  LOL

Kath was a wonderful colleague and friend. She was my fourth grade assistant at Rawls Byrd. She had a great sense of humor and showed warmth and compassion to the students she serviced. She had a talent for designing bulletin boards and t-shirts. I was amazed at her artistic abilities. What I loved most about her was her ability to make others laugh. She had a keen wit which I missed after she left to become a massage therapist. I had the pleasure of having her give me quite a few massages. She was great at relieving my stress. She will truly be missed.

To me Kath was a BFF, a mentor, a teacher, an inspiration, a sister (we understood Japanese mothers), a travel companion. We laughed (a lot!), we cried, we talked (a lot!), we ate (a LOT!!). Some of my favorite memories are from line dance conventions where we danced all night (literally), ate terrible junk food (think Sheetz donut holes and Planters peanut bars), and laughed a lot. We discovered some of the best little Mom and Pop food places (tacos in Las Vegas where we stood outside the place and had to have someone help us translate the menu--good thing, too, because it featured tripe and other delicacies we didn't care to try). And after our first road trip together we discovered Sheetz and that became a favorite. During a subsequent trip, at our second stop at Sheetz (in one day), another friend said, "I'll just wait for you in the car." We loved it.

Not only did we share the line dancing (3 days a week plus conventions), we also had a movie group, "Crazy Lunch Bunch," game days. There's a huge hole in my life without her!

And a huge hole in the line dance community. We talk about Kath during every class, it seems. She's the one who single-handedly started the advanced line dance classes over a decade ago and without her, many of us would no longer be dancing. Her dedication showed in her research, learning of ALL the steps, and then teaching them to us. Some of us are vividly aware of just how much time, effort, and dedication it took: It has taken THREE of us to continue what she did by herself! But her legacy lives on and we'll continue to pass on the wisdom...and the lore.

I'm glad your spirit is now soaring free again, Kath. I know you were there at the VLDF last weekend; we all felt your presence (people from all over the country still ask about you)! And I know you're there at our classes, watching us stumbling around...and laughing at us!

And I will forever hear your voice in my head when I need it, saying "People." 


Love gifted me with a wonderful  and dedicated line dancing teacher. Embracing the memories and dance lessons she taught has enable  her dance group to continue her legacy.

May her family be comforted in knowing that their loved one was an inspiration, and she touched many lives with her shining light that continues even in her absence.

So sorry to hear this. Kath was a good neighbor and friend to us in Cincinnati, when Alec and Mika were tiny children, and my Tony Jr. And Biz were their playmates. Kath was so  kind and talented. I am forever grateful for her companionship and support. My condolences to Rick and the whole family.

My heart goes out to you, Rick, Mika and Alec.  I can’t even begin to imagine the pain that you’re going through right now.  Please feel my arms around you, and know that I’m thinking about you in these tough times, and feel the love that I’m sending your way.
