So, when she thought the air temperature was warm enough, she would join me. Then, it was an excruciating experience for her getting into the water, since early in the summer season the water was always pretty cool or as I referred to it --- refreshing!!! Of course, I would tease her mercilessly until she finally got in. It was a slow, painful process for her, but she braved the cool water and finally got in. Once she got in and started moving, she would always say “its not so bad”. During these almost daily periods we would have plenty of time to talk. We finally discovered that we did not see eye to eye on politics. After a couple of contentious discussions, we decided that we were never going to see eye to eye on politics and that there were so many other things to discuss. Of course, first on her mind was her family, so I got to learn a lot about her son Chris, daughter Suzanne and of course her grandchildren, Zachary and Elena. We also had much to discuss about our various medical issues since both of us had many. She was always a good listener and provided valuable suggestions when I would share my various ailments with her. I would like to think that I did the same for her.

As many know, I have had difficult issues with my left shoulder over the past year. Leah took me to my first arthroscopic surgery in Hampton in early Oct. She checked on me daily by text to see if I needed anything. She left in mid-October, but she still checked in on me by text from Mexico. It was always comforting to me that she would take the time to check on me. I will miss her. Rest in peace my dear friend as she always referred to me. . I know you are in a Happier Place.

I met Leah Brixey when I moved into Colonial Heritage in Jun 2016. We were both members of Club 1, the singles group here. The group was very active at that time, so we often had the opportunity to see each other in a group setting. It was a little difficult for Leah and many of us here to get to know her since she was gone half of the year. But that changed as she participated in more future events. 

In 2023 I had the opportunity to visit Leah in Puerta Vallarta in February 2023. I was on a Panama Canal cruise and our first port visit was in Puerta Vallarta her Happy Place. The original plan was for her to show me her Happy Place in person, but she needed to have surgery on her knee which limited her walking. So I took one of the city tours and she invited me for lunch in her condo. I then came to fully realize why she loved this place so much. She had a magnificent view of the ocean over their huge pool from her 8th floor condo. The weather was perfect with warm temperatures and a beautiful sky. This was in February, so the weather was very different from where I just came from. 

The last couple years we discovered we both liked going to the pool to exercise and it became a morning ritual. We would normally text each other advising us about pending dr appointments or in her case hair and nail appointments that would conflict with our exercise regimen. At first, she would head to the deeper end of the pool to exercise while I stayed in the walking lanes. After a while she joined me walking for a period of time before heading to the deeper end to do her exercises. Early in the summer season it was always pretty dicey on whether or not she would come to the pool. As most know, Leah did not like the cold. That is why every winter she would head to Puerta Vallarta, Mexico.

I can’t believe my precious roommate from college had passed away. Leah was very special to me. I am still crying after reading the news. My love to her family.

The photos I posted here are with her many friends at Colonial Heritage. She had a wonderful time here and had so many close friends. She will be sorely missed.

It was a privilege to take her last year to her Dr. appointments. Even though she was having problems it never let her stop from being with friends. We had the privilege of spending spring with her for over the last 10 years in Puerto Vallarta. We got to meet her grandchildren and son and wife. She had so much pride in what her off spring and their children are accomplishing. Will miss going out to eat with her or having Margaritas on her balcony. She even trusted me in BBQing her steaks. There was never a person she did not like and we were the lucky ones to be able to share time with her. Will always be in our hearts till we see you later.

We are so sorry to hear about Leah's passing. We have many fond memories of her from the kids' time at Browne Academy and continuing to keep in touch through holiday cards. Our prayers go out to the Brixey family at this time. She was the best and I know she will be sorely missed.
