She is survived by her husband, of 56 years, Donald Wayne Rawlings; her daughters Jane Paige Rawlings and her husband Geoffrey Clippinger of Atlanta, Ga, Mary Blair Rawlings Jewusiak and her husband David of Roanoke, Va., and Margaret Selby Rawlings Vaughan and her husband Michael of Phoenix, Md; and seven grandchildren, Elizabeth and Caroline Clippinger, Kathryn and Benjamin Jewusiak, and Charlotte, Margaret, and Paige Vaughan.
Maggie graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1966 with a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education. Upon graduation, she taught at Jackson Davis Elementary School in Richmond, Virginia. After she and her husband moved to Surry, Virginia, she worked as a news reporter for the Smithfield Times covering Surry County Board of Supervisor meetings and local politics before returning to teaching at Surry and Tidewater Academies. Her personal passion for English antiques influenced her volunteer work chairing the Walsingham Academy Annual Antique Show. She ultimately fulfilled her dream of owning and operating her own antiques business, The London Shop, and, after selling the business, managed Williamsburg Antique Mall until she retired. In addition to antiques, Maggie’s loves included her family and pets, tennis, amazing neighbors, and lifelong friends.
A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 PM on December 18 at Nelsen Funeral Home, Williamsburg, followed by a time of reception.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made in Maggie’s name to Heritage Humane Society, 430 Waller Mill Road, Williamsburg, VA 23185. Condolences may be shared at www.nelsenwilliamsburg.com.
