Margaret Vonderstrass Reitzel

Margaret Vonderstrass Reitzel, better known as “Oma”, age 86, of Williamsburg, Virginia passed away on Saturday, May 27, 2023. She is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Reitzel, as well as her parents and siblings in Germany.

Born in Nordheim, Germany, Margaret survived WW2 before moving to the United Sates in 1962 with her children and husband, who was serving in the US Army.

Margaret is survived by her son, John Reitzel (Cheryl); daughter, Karen Kane (Michael); grandchildren, Kylene Rowe (Tim), Cory Watson (Victoria), Christopher Reitzel (Tina), Matthew Reitzel (Janette), Emily Reitzel (Ryan), and 10 great-grandchildren who were her pride and joy: Kristina, Madison, Austin, Christopher, Mackenzie, Hailey, Camdyn, Morgan, Macy, and Arden.

Special thanks to the dedicated team of nurses and staff of Sentara’s 4-North Floor for the amazing care and love given to her while she was there, as well as her special home-care hospice nurse Ms. Heather, and all of the staff at the Hospice House of Williamsburg.

A Celebration of Life for Margaret with light refreshments to follow will be held Thursday, June 1, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd., Williamsburg, Virginia 23188. She will be interred at Albert G. Horton Cemetery with her husband at a later date.

Memorial contributions can be made in her honor to the Hospice House of Williamsburg, 4445 Powhatan Pkwy, Williamsburg, VA 23188.
