A first generation American of German descent, Meg often spoke of the simple but abundant blessings of her childhood in New Bedford, Massachusetts, cared for by her devoted parents and older sister, Anneliese, who had fled Germany before The War. She met her handsome groom-to-be, Bob Tweed, in the late summer of 1959 and by early October they were married, marking the start of a dedicated 60-year union. Her vocation as a wife and mother of five was defined by an outpouring of self-sacrificial love and gentle humility throughout the many joys and storms of family life.
Meg had no desire to be noticed or praised for the countless acts of love to her family, and beyond, and was most comfortable when she remained small, hidden, and unseen. Without any fussiness or pretention, she was happiest when joining her highly creative spirit to acts of service for others, in cooking, baking, needlework, crafting, or quietly working on a quilt, even up to her final weeks. With an interior outlook geared naturally toward love, gratitude, and nurturing all creatures, she spoke of the heart, of forgiveness, and compassion which was quickly perceived by anyone who knew her. With this gentle and courageous heart, and never a complaint, she bore the weight of a brave fight with cancer continually saying that, in all circumstances, she would praise God, even if only able to offer up her empty hands. She had confidence that her burden would not be one inch too large or one ounce too heavy, trusting that in His divine mind and all-knowing wisdom, He knew just how much she could carry. In loving witness to all who had the privilege to know her, she became ever more attentive to the power of God’s grace and Our Lady, Queen of Heaven, who drew near to her and gave her joy, especially in her final days.
Meg is preceded in death by her husband, Robert G. Tweed, and her sister, Anneliese Darling. She is survived by her children, Jennifer Blake (David), Robert (Margie), Peggie, Analisa Wellington (Chuck), and Joseph (Kristin) in addition to a collective ten grandchildren and great grandchildren.
The family would like to offer heartfelt thanks to all Meg’s doctors and especially Riverside Hospice Care for providing such diligent and respectful attention to their beloved mother.
A private funeral and inurnment will be held at St. Bede Catholic Church at the end of July.
