

Martha Phyllis Mears, age 79, passed away on 12 February 2015. She was born in Ohio on 21 February 1935. Later the family moved to California. Martha attended Sacramento State College for a year. She then was married and moved to Italy. Upon her return to the states, she lived in San Point, Idaho. She later moved to Spokane, Washington. It was there that she attended Spokane Community College and graduated from the Interior Design Program. She met Michael in a Water Color Class and was later married. They later moved to Escondido, California to be close to her mother. After her mother died, they moved to Williamsburg, VA and Martha gained employments with the Visitor Center at Colonial Williamsburg as a cashier and later in the clothing department until her retirement. Recently, she joined the Master Gardner Program and she received the title of Master Gardner in January of this year. She was also a very accomplished Painter both in Oil and Watercolor.
She is survived by her husband, Michael; her daughter, Cathy; her sons, David, Steven and James; and her five stepchildren, Chris, Michael, Joanne, Susan and Patty.
A visitation will take place on Monday, February 16 from 5-8pm, at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd., Williamsburg, VA. A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, February 17 at 9am, at St. Bede Catholic Church, 3686 Ironbound Road, Williamsburg, VA 23188. Interment will follow at Williamsburg Memorial Park, 130 King William Drive, Williamsburg, VA.
