

Martin (Marty) David Dickerson passed away on November 16, 2014 at the age of 65. Marty was born on May 6, 1949 in Fort Smith, Arkansas, the son to the late Dr. Cecil Dickerson and Helen (nee Plunkett).
For 32 years, Marty was a devoted and popular educator and highly successful coach in Montgomery County, MD. He retired from Walt Whitman High School in Bethesda, MD, where he enjoyed the admiration and respect of fellow teachers and students. Marty was passionate about sports and his teaching and infused that same passion and motivation in his players and students. One of his proudest moments was winning the Maryland State AA Basketball Championship in March 1979. He was later named as Whitman’s Head Football Coach in February 1993. Above all else, Marty loved and cherished his family, God and the good positive life he lived.
He is survived by his loving wife, Susan; two wonderful sons, Beau (Christa) and Brian; grandson, David; granddaughter, Caitlin Rose; his sister, Katy; brother, Jim; and his several brother and sister-in-laws, many nieces, nephews, family and friends. You were so loved and wonderful Marty. You will be missed.
Friends and family will gather on Saturday, November 22 from 1-2 pm with a memorial service at 2pm, at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd., Williamsburg, VA 23188.
