Mary Courtney Hazelwood, 83, of James City County, passed away Friday, August 17, 2018. She is preceded in death by her husband, Howell P. Hazelwood, Jr.; beloved aunt and uncle, Martha and John Earl Brizendine; and parents, Lucy Pauline Courtney Crowe and Leslie Augustus Courtney.
Survivors include daughters, Sherry Hazelwood Bridewell (Travis) and Melinda Hazelwood Hofrichter (Robert); grandchildren, Robert Howell Hofrichter and Hannah Marie Hofrichter; sisters, Barbara Scott and Katherine Williams; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
Mary was an administrative assistant for Williamsburg/JCC Clerk of Court. She was a devoted Sunday school teacher and choir member of the Liberty Baptist Church in Lanexa, Virginia. Mary was also a member of the Toano Women’s Club, Toano Garden Club, Women’s Missionary Union, a writer for the Daily Press Social Events column, avid cook, talented seamstress, played piano, and enjoyed traveling throughout the world with the love of her life, husband, Howell P. Hazelwood, Jr.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, August 25th from 3-6pm at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Road, Williamsburg. The service will be held Sunday, August 26th at 2pm at Liberty Baptist Church, 15810 Liberty Church Road, Lanexa. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Liberty Baptist Church Building and Grounds Fund or Liberty Baptist Church Children’s Playground Fund, 15810 Liberty Church Road, Lanexa, Virginia 23089.
