
Mary Evelyn Hartnett Hazen, age 102, of Williamsburg, VA, passed away on 24 May 2015, peacefully in her sleep at her home in Williamsburg. She was under the care of Grace Hospice, Williamsburg, VA. She was born in Stafford, KA on 5 Feb 1913.
Mary was preceded in death by her mother, Jessie Stone Hartnett; father, Andrew W. Hartnett; husband, William F. Hazen, of Stafford, KA; son, Drew H. Hazen of Montgomery, AL; daughter, Sarah H. Idele of Williamsburg, VA.
She lived most of her life in Richmond, VA and moved to Williamsburg in 2002 to live with her daughter and son-in-law after major surgery. Mary attended the University of Kansas and was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta (Kappa Chapter), Mayflower Society, Country Club of Virginia and St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church. She was also a board member of the Tuckahoe Women’s Club (Richmond, VA) and council of the VA Museum of Fine Art, as well as a member and past president of the Sleepy Hollow Garden Club, the Cavalier Club (twice). She volunteered her time every week for 31 years at St. Mary’s Hospital.
Mary is survived by her son-in-law, John R. Idele, of Williamsburg, VA; daughter-in-law, Shelia Hazen Patterson (Fred), of Montgomery, AL; grandchildren, Michael H. Cullinan of Williamsburg, VA, Kimberly H. Fry (Mike) of Prattville, AL, Amanda H. Finlay (Robb) of Montgomery, AL; 4 great-grandchildren; and niece, Kathleen White (Beau) of Rosanky, TX.
Service will be held 11:00 am, 1 June 2015, at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 6000 Grove Ave, Richmond, A 23226.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mary’s memory may be made to the Grace Hospice of Williamsburg, 263 McLaws Circle, Williamsburg, VA 23185 or to St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 6000 Grove Ave, Richmond, VA 23226.
