Maureen Whaley, of Williamsburg, VA, passed away March 6, 2022. She is predeceased by her husband of nearly fifty years, Richard A. Whaley; her parents, James and Elizabeth Boyles, two brothers, Jimmy and Rodney; and one sister, Kathleen Salmon of Alsager, England.
She is survived by her much loved daughter, Rachelle K. Whaley and husband Colby French of Los Angeles, CA; niece Christine Barber and husband Alan and family; nephew Keith Boyles; and special cousin June Bowes, her husband Kevin and their family, all of whom reside in England; and many wonderful friends all over the world.
Maureen classified herself as a citizen of the world. Although English by birth, born in the beautiful Lake District, and an adopted Australian, she lived in Australia, Iran, Malaysia, Germany and the United States, spending the later decades of her life living in Williamsburg, VA.
She loved to read, bake and was a big sports fan, especially of tennis, the Duke University basketball teams and the Washington Commanders. She never missed watching the Duke Blue Devils play in March Madness and since this is Coach K’s final year, we are sure she is giving him a little extra help from above! However, her biggest hobby of all was traveling around the world and due to this spoke several languages. Maureen used to say it was easier to list the countries she had not visited than the ones she had.
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 23 at 1:00PM at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd., Williamsburg, VA. Family and friends may also join the service by livestream at https://www.facebook.com/125632257490458. Interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park, 2551 N. Armistead Avenue, Hampton, VA.
In lieu of flowers Maureen asked that you consider donations to the Heritage Humane Society, 430 Waller Mill Rd., Williamsburg, VA 23188 (www.heritagehumane.org). Online condolences may be shared at www.NelsenWilliamsburg.com.
