Nancy Winn James

Nancy Winn James died on January 19, 2023. She was the daughter of the late Wirt Leland Winn and Hilda Lane Winn of Norfolk, VA. She was also preceded in death by her two brothers, William and Wendall Winn.

Nancy is survived by her husband of 60 years, O.B. James and their children Ned (Liz) James and Sarah (John) Burleson. Also surviving her are three grandchildren, Marilu and Evan James and Emma Burleson.

Nancy was born on April 7, 1932 in Norfolk. She graduated from Granby High School in 1950. She attended both Richmond Professional Institute (VCU) and William & Mary. Nancy and her family lived briefly in Norfolk, Virginia Beach and Charlottesville before settling down in Richmond in 1977. After O.B.’s retirement, the couple moved to Williamsburg.

Nancy volunteered at the Virginia Historical Society, the Museum of the Confederacy, and the Muscarelle Museum of Art. She loved history, art, and all animals. She was an avid amateur painter. She produced many beautiful landscapes that now hang in the homes of her children.

She will be interred at Freemason Street Baptist Church in Norfolk at a later date. Condolences may be shared at www.nelsenwilliamsburg.com.
