In addition to a successful career as a chemical engineer with Union Carbide, Phil pursued many avocations: collecting antiques, clocks and watches, sailboat racing and tennis, computers, photography, gardening, bird watching, and travel. His abiding love of music and the opera brought great pleasure, and he served on the Board of the Williamsburg Symphonia for many years. His fondness for dogs and finally his cat Casey, are emblematic of the warmth and affection he shared with family and friends.
He is survived by Anne, his loving wife of 58 years; daughters, Nancy of Nantes, France, and Margaret Young-Sanchez and husband Fernando of Denver, Colorado; son Philip L. Young III and wife Jennifer of Stratford, Connecticut; and two granddaughters, Cecilia and Claudia Sanchez.
